About HARD TO COME BY:
Caught between desire and loyalty…

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team—sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.
When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the brother she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he's become. Derek’s easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting the desire between them and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn’t trust.

As the team’s investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let slip away…

EXCERPT:
Manny exploded so hard out of Emilie’s front door that the Plexiglas in the storm door shattered into a spiderweb design. And three big, male bodies came rushing across the yard toward them.

Emilie was right in the middle of it all.

Her gaze zeroed in on her brother stalking toward her with a baseball bat and a wad of newspaper scraps he threw into the air. The paper fluttered on the breeze. “What did you do with it?” he growled, marching toward her. Emilie rushed backward.

Freeze!” came Derek’s shout. “Hands on your head and freeze.”

Manny pulled a gun and waved it in a wide circle, firing off two rounds that sent the guys ducking for cover. A return shot caught Manny in the shoulder but he didn’t react to it at all. It was like he didn’t even feel it.

Emilie’s foot caught in a divot in the grass and she tumbled backward onto her butt. Hard. “Manny, no!” Emilie said. “Put your gun away. Nobody shoot! Please, nobody shoot!”

Was her brother really going to beat her with a bat? Was he really this far gone? Sadness ripped through her because the answer was staring her in the face. He lifted the bat.

Another shot hit his arm, blood spraying on the grass, but it didn’t deter Manny nor stop the bat from its downward arc.

A body landed atop hers, knocking the air from her lungs. And then a loud, metallic clang rang out.

Derek had raised his leg to take the hit with his prosthetic limb.

In a quick series of moves, Manny spun to a position behind Emilie’s back, and pointed his gun down at the two of them. “Drop the weapons or he gets a bullet to the brain. You might get me, but I’ll get him, too.”

Oh, God, no! “Manny, just go,” Emilie cried.

“Not going anywhere ’til I have my money, my guns, and my drugs. So it looks like we’re at a fucking stalemate,” he said, voice twisted with anger and hate. He placed the gun’s muzzle against the back of Derek’s head. The sight made her nauseous. “Where is it, Emilie?”

“I don’t have it, Manny. I didn’t even know you had anything down there,” she said, thinking on her feet . . . or back. “I was kidnapped by a city cop yesterday. He took me to a storage facility in Baltimore. Knew all about both of us. I barely got away with my life,” she said. “Maybe he’d already been here before that all happened,” she said, desperate for him to believe the lie.

“Fuck! Fuck!” Manny yelled, punctuating his outbursts with jerks of the gun against Derek’s skull.

Between her anticipation of the shot and her inability to draw deep breaths due to Derek’s weight atop her, Emilie was starting to see spots floating around the edges of her vision. He swung the gun in an arc toward the other men. “Wait a minute,” he said, eyes toward where she thought Beckett stood. “I fucking know you,” he said, waving the weapon.

“Shit,” Derek bit out.

“You know me, too, motherfucker,” came a voice from behind them.

Manny whirled, fired three times in the direction of the voice, and raced for the Suburban, firing wild shots behind him as he fled. Emilie braced for the searing impact each time, or for Derek to cry out in pain, but neither happened.

The Suburban rumbled to life and pealed out of her driveway, engine racing. Derek rolled off her onto his stomach, weapon drawn and firing after the vehicle. Gunfire rang out all around. Emilie curled into a ball on the grass and covered her ears with her hands. Eyes closed, she could almost convince herself she was listening to a fireworks display, there were so many pop, pop, pops.

And then it stopped, and only the sound of the roaring engine in the distance cut the evening air.

Head ringing, Emilie rolled to her hands and knees and scrabbled toward Derek. “Are you okay? Oh, my God, are you okay?” she asked as she reached him.

Excerpt

It was not a gentle kiss. It was not tame or timid or questioning.

It burned her down to the root of Sam's soul. It touched something deep and dark and hidden.

Something she'd thought was long since dead and buried and gone.

Patrick’s tongue slid against hers, stroking to life the very sensations she thought she'd never feel again.

It was electric, the feel of his mouth against hers. The scrape of stubble against her chin, the taste of him. The smell of his skin.

He nipped her. Pinched her bottom lip between his teeth and sucked it. And she sighed at the pleasure, at the raw ache his taste and touch aroused in her, pushing aside the darkness that haunted her.

Sam felt him. Felt everything. The heat of his skin. The warmth that drew her closer. That made her want to crawl into his lap and unzip his pants and push up that damned flannel shirt until they were skin to skin and there was nothing between them but sweat and heat.

One hand slid down her side. Tugged at her fleece and...

"Dear lord how many layers of clothing do you have on under this thing," he muttered against her lips.

She smiled. "You weren't wondering why I wasn't cold?"

"Well you'd be a champ at strip poker right about now," he murmured.

Then his fingers found her skin and she was no longer thinking.

Review of Take My Breath Away by Christie Ridgway

First let me say that I love Christie Ridgway's books. I discovered her Beach House No. 9 series a few years back and was hooked. Her contemporary romances are sweet and fun. I somehow missed a release from her this spring. I know, how could I have missed it? All I can do is say that life gets really busy sometimes. In my defense I am raising little people and reading awesome books. So anyway, my daughter wanted to stop at the library the other day. I happened to walk by the newly acquired romance books and there sat a brand new book from a brand new series (It has actually been out for several months), be still my beating heart. I felt like I won the lottery as I looked at the book cover of Take My Breath Away, the first book in Ridgway's new Cabin Fever series. Yes, I know I am kind of ridiculous but I really love new books and this one was kind of a surprise. Not to mention the instant gratification I got from being able to read it right away (basically in a few short hours because I couldn't put it down). Now about this book, what can I say? It was FABULOUS! Ms. Ridgway has the ability to weave a story that I could personally see as a romantic movie. Her characters and descriptions really pull me into her stories. The heroine Poppy is a great female lead. She has spirit and determination. She is also almost too stubborn for success and sometimes a bit silly. She is also fiercely loyal. She plans to avoid men who could disrupt her life. Her big plans for the future will hopefully keep her family's supposedly cursed property afloat, maybe even turn it into a success. That is until her planing for the future takes early fruition and she can't say no to an opportunity to improve her finances immeadiately. In comes our hero Ryan, former big time star, current rich and famous train-wreck looking to hide out. He has tragedy in his past that keeps him lost and adrift, continuously making bad decisions. Is this a disaster waiting to happen or will these two come together? Can this lady trust and fall in love? Can this man open his heart and forgive himself? It was a wonderful read full of emotion and passion. The story line contains complex issues that made it alll the more intriguing. I loved this story and can't wait for the next book in the series that's due out in December. So here's to happy reading. . .

Giveaway, Release Day spotlight, and Review of Rocky Mountain Romance by Vivian Arend

Rocky Mountain Romance by Vivian Arend is a hot and quirky romance. Book 7 in her Six Pack Ranch series can definitely be read alone. As I have not read any of the previous books in this series I can attest to this fact. I was totally able to follow the story without getting lost. I also gained a healthy curiosity for the characters of her previous books. In this book I love how Vivian accurately presented the small town dynamic in her story about taking a second chance. I also found the main characters, Melody and Steve, fascinating. They are full of spirit and never a 100% predictable. The characters approached their issues in creative ways almost from the first. It made for a highly entertaining read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a somewhat light hearted erotic story. This story/ series is not my usual thing but I gotta say that I really liked the modern erotic twist on cowboys. Below you will find an excerpt, buy links and a way to follow the fabulous Ms. Arend. You will also find a giveaway. So enjoy and here's to happy reading . . .

Summary

Second chances are the sweetest—and the hottest.

It took a spectacularly embarrassing break-up to knock Steve Moonshine Coleman off his lazy butt. In the ten months since that night, he's changed his ways. Now that Melody's back in town, it's time for this sweet-talking cowboy to convince her to get back in the saddle with him.

A return to her veterinary position in Rocky Mountain House was always in the cards for Melody Langley. Getting back together with Steve? Never part of the plan. He had lots of potential but zero ambition, and there's no way she'll accept anything less than a man who can keep up with her, in and out of bed.

But the new-and-improved cowboy is impossible to resist, so Melody issues a challenge. Three months to prove he's reformed. Three months of Steve orchestrating one sexual indulgence after another--‪wicked distractions from the old boys' club Melody faces at work and Steve's growing responsibilities‬.

He's got one shot to prove with more than words what's in his heart and soul.

Excerpt

Melody went with Steve willingly, around the side of the barn to where his truck and a horse trailer waited. He helped her into the driver side and she slid into the middle seat, checking her watch to make sure she didn’t get too far behind schedule. No way did she want another repeat of her hellish Monday.

“I’ve got thirty minutes tops, otherwise I need to phone the clinic and let them know I’ll be late.”

“You won’t be late,” he promised.

They rattled down a short side road but instead of turning toward the highway, Steve took them along a back trail that led through the trees into a clearing at the side of wide-open ranch land. Nothing lay before them but miles of low rolling hills. To the west, the Rocky Mountains rose above to the sky, the craggy peaks decorated with a tiny dusting of white in the highest cracks and crannies. The tree line broke off to expose granite greys and flashes of white quartz.

It was an amazing view, and she was glad it was something she got to see every day of her life.

She was still staring in admiration when Steve parked the truck and jerked open the door.

Melody followed him out, but couldn’t see any signs of an animal that needed attention.

“Do you want me to be a veterinary to the squirrels?” she teased.

He whirled, catching her under the hips and pulling her against his body so he could kiss her fiercely. Her back pressed against the cold metal of the horse trailer as his overheated body met hers.

“You’re driving me crazy,” he confessed when he finally let her breathe. “I’ve been aching to touch you since the weekend. I need to be inside you.”

Melody didn’t have the words to protest, especially not when he put his lips to her neck and sucked. A flash of heat went from his mouth through her entire system, and she clutched his shoulders.

She was in motion again, this time her feet on the ground as his hands scrambled at her belt buckle. “I want you right now,” he demanded.

Review of Billionaires in Love by Carly Phillips

This past week marked the release of Billionaires in Love by Carly Phillips. It is a reissue of two of her previously released novellas about second chances. The first novella is Midnight Angel from her Love Unexpected series where Dylan North and Holly Evans finally get another chance. A short story but in no way lacking. It contained everything I would want to see in a novella including passion and good character development. The second novella, The Playboy's Second Chance (formerly titled Kismet) takes us back to Serendipity where Elisabetta Gardelli and Trevor Dane reconnect and come to terms with their past. Again, a short story but in no way lacking. I am not typically a fan of short stories but these were great and an unexpected surprise to help tide fans of Carly over until her January 2015 release of Dare to Touch. I love all her work, past or present, and these two novellas are no exception. Below you will find the buy links incase you haven't gotten your copy yet. You will also find links to Carly's website and social media pages. She is always doing fun stuff, making surprise announcements, having interesting conversations, and doing great giveaways. Don't forget to follow her. Without further ado, here's to happy reading . . .
